چکیده

The occurrence and shape of turbulent structures in mixed convection flows through a differently heated vertical channel are investigated terms thermally induced attenuation amplification velocity, pressure, temperature fluctuations using direct numerical simulations. It is shown that the wall-normal momentum transport decreased increased near cooled wall, respectively, this leads to reduced elevated production velocity streamwise component aiding opposing flow, respectively. corresponding flow smoother, faster warmer aligned along main while colder more frayed less directed. overall stable than flow. Besides, study reveals position maximum moves toward so sweeps produced at two walls affected by former. As consequence, distance time period over which develop shorter further vortex oriented direction usually arise with an offset right or left above sweep ejection, whereby decreasing values correlation coefficients increasing Grashof number indicate weakening structures. Since none evaluated criteria, is, distributions vorticity, λ 2 - value Rortex-value correlate well minima pressure fluctuations, they do not allow clear identification Finally, analyzing budget kinetic energy it confirmed only indirectly influenced buoyancy force. Thus, reflected reduction exaggeration Reynolds shear stresses

Exact Coherent Structures in Turbulent Shear Flows

Exact coherent structures are three-dimensional, nonlinear traveling wave solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations. These solutions are typically unstable from onset, yet they capture the basic statistical and structural features of low Reynolds number turbulent shear flows remarkably well. These exact coherent structures have now been found in all canonical shear flows: plane Couette, Poiseuil...

Natural convection in a shallow cavity with differentially heated end walls. Part 1. Asymptotic theory

The problem of natural convection in a cavity of small aspect ratio with differentially heated end walls is considered. It is shown by use of matched asymptotic expansions that the flow consists of two distinct regimes : a parallel flow in the core region and a second, non-parallel flow near the ends of the cavity. A solution valid at all orders in the aspect ratio A is found for the core regio...

Natural convection in a shallow cavity with differentially heated end walls. Part 2. Numerical solutions

Numerical solutions of the full Navier-Stokes equations are obtained for the problem of natural convection in closed cavities of small aspect ratio with differentially heated end walls. These solutions cover the parameter range Pr = 6.983, 10 6 Gr d 2 x lo4 and 0.05 4 A d 1. A comparison with the asymptotic theory of part 1 shows excellent agreement between the analytical and numerical solution...

Effect of large-scale coherent structures on turbulent convection.

We study an effect of large-scale coherent structures on global properties of turbulent convection in laboratory experiments in air flow in a rectangular chamber with aspect ratios A approximately 2 and A approximately 4 (with the Rayleigh numbers varying in the range from 5x10;{6} to 10;{8} ). The large-scale coherent structures comprise the one-cell and two-cell flow patterns. We found that a...

Detection of Coherent Structures in Photospheric Turbulent Flows

We study coherent structures in solar photospheric flows in a plage in the vicinity of the active region AR 10930 using the horizontal velocity data derived from Hinode/Solar Optical Telescope magnetograms. Eulerian and Lagrangian coherent structures (LCSs) are detected by computing the Q-criterion and the finite-time Lyapunov exponents of the velocity field, respectively. Our analysis indicate...
